Clothing Guide for Engagement Photography
This guide has been written and put together to help you feel comfortable and get the very most out of your photography session. We want you to be yourself and feel confident and happy with what your wearing.. because the more you feel like yourselves and the more comfortable you are will help us in capturing amazing photos!
A lot of clients like to send over a quick snap of the outfits they’re bringing to make sure they’ll work or not, which I’m totally happy to help with! The guide should answer most of your questions though! If you feel completely lost and need anymore direction outside of the guide, here’s a link to a Pinterest board with a little inspo if you need it! * Just remember to bring a few options of outfits and we can pick and choose outfits for you can change into throughout the shoot depending on the location’s colors, the light, and weather. Can’t wait for our shoot, it’s gonna be sooo good! Let us know if you have any questions! So excited for our shoot!”
Colour Choices & Textures
As far as choosing colours go based on location, I’ll usually try to colour match the tones and colours of outfits with elements in the environment if possible to help them blend in, helping their faces (aka where a large portion of emotion comes from) stand out more. I never want outfits to be the main focus of images unless I’m shooting something fashion based (lookbooks, for a brand, etc), so making choices to help the clothing compliment the location is typically what I’m going for.
We recommend our clients lean more towards neutral, earthy tones and stay away from bright colours. For example: instead of red, go with a deep maroon and instead of yellow, switch out for a mustard yellow and so on. We typically shoot in earthy, natural settings and therefore wearing bright, fluorescent colours is often very distracting and out of place which is why we recommend to stay away from them and instead go for toned down colours which still pop and look gorgeous in a natural setting!
Accessories and Props
Bring a picnic basket, blankets, your cherished car or truck or bring your furry family member along for the shoot (we are dog obsessed!!). Bringing props like these will add to the photoshoot, we can have you set up a small picnic somewhere high up in the mountains or taking the family on an epic walk with your fave K9 friend. We also love it when our couples bring accessories with them ie hats, scarves and jewellery because it adds more interest to the outfits you wear.
- Wear shoes that are comfortable, we usually recommend avoiding heels as we are often taking our couples on the road less traveled which often involves walking!
- If you want, now is a great time to organise your makeup trial if you want makeup on your shoot.
- Bring multiple outfits to change between, we provide a changing tent for your convenience.
- Avoid shirts and clothing with large distracting text or logos.
- Send us your outfit ideas, we can always offer advise and recommendations
- If unsure, contact us!
